So let me, MsV, bring you through some of those that i frequent. (complete with screenshots, links and reviews. how nice can i get!)
SGSellTrade
SGSellTrade is my favourite online shopping community so far, simply because it’s so reliable.
To view all the selling entries and post a comment, you need to sign up as a member first. A feedback page is also required of all members. This ensures you don’t get cheated, nor can you cheat anyone. And if you intend to sell stuff, you have to register separately as a seller. (This process can take several months. I myself have registered ages ago but have yet to be approved. Yes, the waiting list is long.)
Once you’ve done all that, browse, post a comment or email the seller directly if you see something you’re interested in and tadah! You’re officially shopping online!
The community stocks apparel from literally everywhere, with those from brands such as Topshop, Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, and Mango snapped up almost instantly. Of course, the wares you can hawk are not limited to merely apparel; posts selling furniture, hair extensions and even tuition services have been spotted.
SGFleaMarket
SgFleaMarket is like the twin sister of SGSellTrade, only less pretty, messier, and more prone to cheating partners. Like SGSellTrade, you have to sign up as a member to post selling entries. However, you’re not required to be a member to access selling posts and leave comments. A feedback page is also a good to have but not a must.
The moderators over at SGSellTrade are probably also much more law-enforcing and the members more law-abiding as the community is kept clean and uncluttered, with only one picture accompanying each entry. SGFleaMarket employs similar rules, unfortunately, the people over at this community believe in breaking the rules.
The good thing about SGFlea though, is that relatively unknown blogshops tend to post there, therefore leading to some unexpected but delightful discoveries if you get lucky.
SG_Beauty
SGBeauty is the personification of your salesgirl over the makeup counter, only, she doesn’t quite give out free samples. What she offers though, is reviews of products. These are done regularly, with members posting swatches. Every weekend, selling posts are allowed. And that, is when you can unleash your inner devil. Blushes in sample jars, mascara, brushes, eyeliner, from the expensive (YSL) to the affordable (ELF), you mention it, they’ve got it.
Occasionally, the kind one or two who’re going on overseas trips to makeup havens Japan/HongKong or the States will offer to purchase cosmetics for the other members. Suddenly, brands such as NARS and Jill Stuart don’t seem that unattainable afterall.
SGStyle
SGStyle is kinda like your mum, only more reliable when it comes to giving fashion advice. (i have no idea why i keep personifying these communities. :S) If you purchase a top at a flea market and are having second thoughts about it when you get home, post a picture of it on SGStyle and the members will gladly offer you feedback. (constructive or not, this depends on how hideous the top is)
If you’ve seen a skirt online but think the shipping fees are too much of a killer, ask if anyone else has seen it offline. Who knows, someone with a sharp eye might have seen it hidden in some dark corner in Bugis Street.
I find SGStyle most useful when it comes to measurements and sizing. Because there is most certainly someone else who has faced the “If i’m a Charles and Keith 37, what GoJane size am I?” dilemma before, simply search through the tags, and you’ll get your answer.
SGStyle too has its own selling community, SGStyleBytes, but most of their selling posts are already repeated in SGSellTrade and SGFleaMarket.
The next best thing about SGStyle, is that it reveals to users which blogshops are selling their apparel at exorbitant prices. HAH! Blogshop owners who think you can cheat us ordinary folks of our hard-earned money, you will be exterminated! What’s even better, SGStyle tells you where you can find that cheaper piece of apparel, whether it’s from some dingy shop in Chinatown, or some ahlian shop in Far East Plaza.
SGSpree
SGSpree is like a global shopping centre. With just one click, you can order apparel, nail polishes, makeup, toys from all over the world. The good thing is, you don’t have to bear the hefty shipping fees yourself. Your fellow spree-ers will share the burden with you.
The only negative thing about spreeing though, is the duration. Often, sprees can take from 2 weeks up to a month to finish. But as they say, good things come to those who wait.
So how? Comprehensive anot? :p Do feel free to comment if you have any other communities you would like to share. I know there’re lots of hidden gems out there!
Till my shoes from my sprees arrive,
MsVindicta
